TEA CONSENT VIDEO

If you're still struggling with consent, just imagine instead of initiating sex, you're making them a cup of tea. You say, "Hey, would you like a cup of tea?" And they go, "Oh, my God, I would love a cup of tea. Thank you." Then you know they want a cup of tea. If you say, "Hey, would you like a cup of tea?" And they're like, "No, um, you know, I'm not really sure." Then you could make the a cup of tea or not, but, be aware, they might not drink it. And if they don't drink it, then, and this is the important part, don't make them drink it. Just because you made it doesn't mean you are entitled to watch them drink it. And if they say, "No, thank you," then don't make them tea at all. Just don't make them tea. Don't make them drink tea. Don't get annoyed at them for not wanting tea. They just don't want tea, OK?

HOW GOOD GRAMMAR SAVES LIVES AND OTHER REASONS IT'S STILL IMPORTANT

Your grammar skills, whether good or bad, often leave people with a lasting impression about who you are. Yet grammar errors are still extremely common as they’re so easy to miss. Unfortunately, many grammar mistakes come at the price of being misunderstood, made fun of, or even losing a job.

Luckily, poor grammar skills can be fixed as long as you’re aware of them. This article will show you how even a little mishap, like adding one comma too many, can change the meaning of the whole sentence — and explain how to avoid it.

CORONAVIRUS AND MODAL VERBS

The coronavirus is a kind of virus that mutates (changes) very fast. It’s said it comes from wild animals and its origin is China because they’re used to eating wild animals (like bats, pangolins…). Actually people think the animal which transmitted first the virus to a human was a pangolin (an ant-eater family species). The coronavirus has existed for more than 30 years but it stayed confined in China. The reason of the spreading of it is because the more often commercial transactions and, therefore, business travelling to China in this last decade and also the more habitual habits from Chinese to go on holiday to other countries.

OLD WIVES' TALES

Old wives tale is an expression used to indicate that a supposed truth is actually a superstition or something untrue, to be ridiculed. It can be said sometimes to be a type of urban legend, said to be passed down by older women to a younger generation. Such "tales" are considered superstition, folklore or unverified claims with exaggerated and/or inaccurate details.

GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP & SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

The term "citizenship" refers to an identity between a person and a city, state or nation and their right to work, live and participate politically in a particular geographic area. When combined with the term "global", it typically defines a person who places their identity with a "global community" above their identity as a citizen of a particular nation or place. The idea is that one’s identity transcends geography or political borders and that responsibilities or rights are or can be derived from
membership in a broader class: "humanity".

Sustainable development is a process for meeting human development goals while sustaining the ability of natural systems to continue to provide the natural resources and ecosystem services upon which the economy and society depend. The modern concept of sustainable development is derived most strongly from the 1987 Brundtland Report. Sustainable development is the organizing principle for sustaining finite resources necessary to provide for the needs of future generations of life on the planet.

''Climate change is destroying our path to sustainability. Ours is a world of looming challenges and increasingly limited resources. Sustainable development offers the best chance to adjust our course.'' Ban Ki-moon

KIDS & CONSUMERISM

The market for children’s products and food is enormous. Parents on the one hand have a hard time raising children the way they want to, while on the other hand, kids are being increasingly influenced by commercialism that often goes against what parents are trying to do.

Even in industrialized societies, where governments and campaigners fight for better child advertising standards and regulations, or improved food quality, industry fights back preferring self-regulation (which rarely happens, or is intentionally weak), and arguing that it is individual choices and parents that are the issue.

For the activity we have worked on in class, watch this video and answer the questions in the handout: Kids & Consumerism handout

THE LOST THING

The Lost Thing is a humorous story about a boy who discovers a bizarre-looking creature while out collecting bottle-tops at a beach. Having guessed that it is lost, he tries to find out who owns it or where it belongs, but the problem is met with indifference by everyone else, who barely notice it’s presence. Each is unhelpful in their own way; strangers, friends, parents are all unwilling to entertain this uninvited interruption to day-to-day life. In spite of his better judgement, the boy feels sorry for this hapless creature, and attempts to find out where it belongs.

"Over the Rainbow" in Norwegian Lottery commercial

Great Norwegian commercial, which reflects on the value of friendship rather than the value of money. Opposite to what other lottery adverts show, money fails to generate happiness in those who surround you unless you use it wisely. And what a witty way of using it!!

Play the video and make a brief summary of what it's shown in this video which prioritizes love and note down some sentences of what you would have done with it or what you would do.

HEARTWARMING THAI COMMERCIAL

There are benefits -- including intangible ones -- to doing good deeds.  The following life insurance ad from Thailand illustrates this fact wonderfully! We expect companies to go for the hard sell over the holidays—but sometimes they can surprise us. See this ad that gives us the warm and fuzzies.

Por cuatro esquinitas de nada

This is a pair work activity we've done in class. Following the learning strategy based on the critical thinking skills students had to write down a slogan for the video 'por cuatro esquinitas de nada'.
A great video (not available in English) in which it's shown how easy might be to fit people into our class when it seems there are physical (or not physical) impediments for these people to carry on with their evaryday. People with disabilities think and feel the same things as you or I might, they also have the same rights as anyone else and we must consider what they need to be entitled to the same rights we are entitled to. It's all about respect. It's all about listening to others opinions, their thoughts and feelings, valuing them as whole person, regardless of any deficit they may have, and make them feel as comfortable at school as we are. It's great learning for our students.

SHALL WE DANCE?

Under the name Shall we dance? a great JAF productions footage explains why we shouldn't study what we don't we feel like and be carried along by our own dreams and desires.
For those parents who still think kids have to get prepared for succeding in life, measured in terms of money and professional success, instead of letting them do what they really enjoy, which will probably be more efficient when time comes to earn a living.
